just wondering what damage changing gears on a fmx auto, i've noticed that if you can change down to 2 at any speed. is this bad for the transmission?

If it operates the same as my C4, the governer should prevent downshifting above 80km/h. BUT certain types of shift kits, (like the Transgo I have) lock out the govenor, so you can downshift at any speed. (they dont tell you this when they sellyou one)

My FMX auto (behind a 351C both of which were out of a ZJ Fairlane) has no governer on 2nd so you can change back manually at any speed. It does have a governer on 1st though and it won't let me change into 1st above about 55kph.


Mind you if it did

cheers bill, it doesn't downshift above 80k, we were at 120k on the hume and overtaking a truck that i put it into 2 it revd nicely and left the truck for dead. mate drives like this all the time and i must admit his xb351 wagon has never had trans/engine

Your biggest hassle is changing down at high speed you can lock up the rear end and put yourself in the ditch
