XD 4.1 Distributor Cap Refit

XD 4.1 distributor cap refit. Recently I removed the distributor cap to check it out but had great difficulty refitting the distributor cap (is standard) to the body of the distributor. I well understand that the vertical elleptical springs have to be very strong to keep the cap in place. What is the secret of making refitting easier

Hello Reno,
Assuming that you have place the cap back on in exactly the right position you push the springs back onto it from the middle of the spring not the top.It then becomes easy.

Hello Jim,
Thank you for your response. Prior to your response I struggled 30 minutes trying to compress the spring in the middle part so that it would engage in the catch but without success so I took off the dist cap to ensure that the rotor was firmly seated - checking that the cap was squarely positioned with an inspection mirror - all checked out good - still would not engage in the catch - ended up making a loop from synthetic string to catch the top end of the spring and feed the length through the intake manifold gap pulled up and went on easily. Still puzzles me.
