Hey Guys I have a blown Head Light on my XB, what lights are the best to use these days without changing too much to the original fit up?
Also I have an extra loose wire that comes off the three pin plug and its not attached to anything, I have them on both sides and its all original, what could they be for?
Happy New Year, Cheers! Phill.

Phill are they a sealed beam? If so toss them. if you want a cheaper alternative grab a set of headlights out of an XC or ZH if you can find any. They have the quartz halogen globes in them and are a straight swap over.

Not ZH they are a smaller quad headlamp setup. The equivalent (Rolls Royce style) LTD lights will do as will the lights out of an HZ Kingswood.

New ones are not that expensive either:

Or you can pay $10 less and buy a pair of not so period correct flat lense headlights from the same supplier or even a pair of sealed beam halogens.

I just did a quick ebay search for 7 halogen (as in 7 inches) & came up with 1800 items in car parts alone and about 350 of those in the left column are headlight assemblies.

A word of advice though do not get tempted to use anything brighter than 55W bulbs without wiring in a relay as even they are stretching the early 40 year old wiring and headlight switch & dimmer to their limit. Even with 55 watts per side I'd be tempted to wire in a relay. The lack of voltage drop can only make your new headlights brighter:

The lights are in and I can relax driving at night now, so now I don't have to drive with my head infont of the steering wheel and squashing it on the inside of the windscreen!
The H4 semi sealed lights are so much better than the old sealed beams,
Thanks guys!
