Hello All,

With regard to the BF MKII Ford Falcon SR variant, a limited edition trim level, What does the letters SR stand for?

Same thing that XT stands for - nothing.
It's just a couple of letters that sound good to the marketing team.

Sports & Recreation? No more likely Mick is right.

What does XR stand for? Fords RS & GT monikers actually have a meaning but they seem to be the exception to the rule.

Don't forget GS :) Yes the SR means nothing. Much like the G6 which is available in 4 cyl now. The last of the SRs in the BF were packed to the hilt with some bloody nice features though. Quite like the partial leather trim and XR body kit.

Oops yes I forgot GS. The G in G6 apparently stands for the now defunct Ghia name and The FG model designation is a tribute to the Fairmont Ghia so I was told when the FG first saw the light of day.

Actually the SR does not have an XR body kit as a lot of it is SR specific even the rear spoiler is different. I don't know why they made a rear spoiler which is different but looks the same to the untrained eye.

The 9 spoke wheels are the same casting as the BA Fairmont Ghia wheels but look a lot better in the SR machine finish than the silver painted Ghia versions.

I'd love to get a set of those wheels and polish the machine finish out to a mirror finish and use them on my BA Ghia to give it more "shine".

I didn't realise it was a different rear spoiler. Never knew till now. They do look good though. Put in a set of ghia fog lights and they look a million bucks.

So it does not stand for 'Sexy Revhead"! *LOL*

My wife and I are taking delivery of a BF MKII SR, plated 2008, later in the week.

From what I gather they were popular when produced owing to the good value, of accessories.

From watching the SR's for sale it appears that occasionally some had electric windows in the rear and also rear parking assist. Although the car we are purchasing does not have these two items.

I have noticed that the late SR's had the "SR" embossed on the front seat headrests. Of which the earlier cars did not have.

I considered buying a BF Futura that had these options when I was looking for a BA/BF.

I just put down a deposit on a BF XR6 today. I'm quite looking forward to taking it for a nice long drive.

Paul, you won't be disappointed with your XR6.

Several years ago I had a BAII XR6 that sacrificed itself to save my life in a nasty head on with a street-racing P-plater who'd had his licence for 1 week. That accident showed me just how good the intrinsic safety of a large car is, along with all the active elements - the seatbelt pretensioners prevented me even touching the airbag. I came away with many broken bones & severe bruising, but I would have been trapped if it was an econo-box.

I've had an FG G6 (LPI) for 15 months now, and done 50K in it. It's a great car to drive - one of the most comfortable cars I've ever had for long trips, tows a loaded car trailer well, and has a lot of poke - along with very low running costs.

I had an FG XR6 for a couple of weeks when my previous car was being repaired (thanks to an uncovered load on the M7), and they too are quite a good car - but I prefer the "luxury sport" suspension in the G6 - it still handles quite well, but rides a little better than the XR6.

The FG is really just an extensive (but well engineered) re-skin of a BA/BF when you look at them up close. Sure the FG is a little more refined & has more mod-cons, but the BA/BF underpinnings gave it a damn good foundation to start with.

It's a shame Ford just don't market them as well as they could. They should be promoting the running cost efficiency of the LPI - I went Sydney to Melbourne & back for $99.60 in gas earlier this year (admittedly it was 65.9 & a best of 54.9 - yes, that's Jan 2012 prices). Corollas, and even diesel powered econo-hatches can't match that in real $$ terms, and they certainly can't match the comfort or space of the FG - I came home with the boot & rear seat full of Holden literature from a closed dealership, so it wasn't a light load either!

If Ford knew how to market and export the car. ( I hear the South Africans would love to get hold of them ) and keep their dealer networks in line they wouldn't be so deep in the poo. The falcon is one of the very few cars I can take on a long drive without killing my back. I'm hoping to get the keys for the car next week sometime. Christmas has slowed down proceedings with the banks being closed. I'll be more happy once the car is in my driveway and I'm detailing the hell out of it. I'll try and post a couple of photos if I can remember my photobucket account details. Been a couple of years since I last used it
