I have hq 202 orginally now a 350chev . Ive taken my dash face plate off and tried to hook a factory hq prem or statesman Temp gauge
I cut the green one and pink one that go to the temp light and joined longer wires to them and plugged them into the gauge. I then earthed the gauge to the dash. but the gauge reads nothing. when I unearth it from the dash it goes to the far right just past H for the hottest.
Any suggestions what could be wrong?? Could it be the sensor is different in the block? if so would a hq 202 one fit in the hole??
Cheers in advance Keith

If you had a light, that sender will not work for a gauge. The gauge is a scale of voltage returns, where a light is on/off (either maxed out, or not at all). The sender has to match the gauge, then put in appropriate adaptor to fit engine.

Your light had a positive signal from the ignition and a wire to the sender. I assume the pink is ignition on as it is in most other holdens I have played with. The other wire would be green, going to the sender. The sende ris just an on/off switch

Yes you need a new sender, unless you want the needle to simply be cold or hot with nothing in between. Yes it is the same thread, switch sender was in say Monaro LS 350 and variable sender in Statesman and GTS plus LS with optional sports dash. Same goes

It will depend on the manifold whether the sender will fit.
I have had 3 different chev moanifolds, and all have had different sender threads. Cast iron unit - no adapter. Holley manifold, medium adapter. Australian performance manifold (can't rememb |

Dr Terry, Warren started talking about oil senders, so i thought i would post the info on it incase he needed it too....generally when i sell a temp sender, the customer buys a oil pressure sender too.

A plumbing or engineering supplies shop may have the adaptors. All you need is the sender which is in there, and the one you want to fit. They should be able to find an adaptor to fift one to the other.
