thanks fellas... appreciate the nice comments. :)

ended up getting the wheels back from the powdercoaters too. soo smooth and nice, and silver all over :)
couple pictures (sorry if its a bit repetetive/boring)

and compared to the 14X6s.. you can see the extra step/width in the lip..

gonna do the blackouts on them shortly. no rush though - they wont rust anymore. :)

thats all for now.

Hey Rds ive loved following your build. Love how you dont hold back on the pics too! What youve done is awesome and a real credit to you. Car looks absolutely fantastic. Love to see it in the flesh. Will you be putting her in all-holden day at flemington next year or anything?

thanks mate... cheers for the support. :)
suppose i will be putting it in a few carshows. probably wouldnt want to get it judged though - would hate for someone just to point out anything ive done wrong. plan is to drive it to every car show possible though.. and ive gone to All Holden Day the last couple years, so chances are youd see it around!

..got to get it finished and regoed first though. orig wanted it done by monaro nationals... until i found out that was 250 or something to enter?!

well, its been two months of no updates - and pretty much 2 months of nothing happening.
a couple days ago it went off to the autoelecs though. finally getting that sorted. :)
few pics after a wash down (it was fkn filthy with dust), and the token pic-on-the-truck from following it there.

ive been as lazy with updating this as i have been with working on the car.
not much has happened since dec last year!
got it back from the auto-elecs, and all good. now had lights, indicators, cranked over, etc. all good.
didnt do much from chrismas 08 to now though.. very busy with work, and other projects..!

sifted though the last 11months of pictures for ones of the GTS.
..uuh, got another glovebox:

dash frame was broken where the bonnet release pulls though. didnt realize the first time until all the dash was in and i was trying to put the bonnet release in! had to get another one from the wreckers and swap it in.

got some trim rings for the 14x6s.. just looks good. still got the 15x7s though..

some more money for rare-spares...

photos of the car from that point, maybe june this year..

measured and cut the spoiler holes. ill put it on once the gaps are done and its on the road.

then finally got a new dash facia and a radio. i shouldve bought one years ago.. hell, i shouldve got one when they were still in the cars at the wreckers. the holden AM radios are wanted now.. :(
the facia is a reproduction one, and suprisingly decent. the decals came off a guy on ebay, and got extra of the same for the console lid. top quality, and turned out nice. bit fiddly to put on though!

shame about the little tear in the seat cloth. gives me an excuse to get a couple metres of new herringbone later down the track though.

thats it for now i think.. interior is pretty much done.

the to do list is now very short, pretty much just:
- put new carb on
- fluids in and start it..
- take it to a panel shop to get all the panel gaps done better. if i keep trying, therell be no paint left!
- roady, pits, and reg.
thats all ive needed to do since maybe july, and i just cant get around to it! ..ill see how i go.

cheers. :)
the rear spoiler ends i have are held down by two bolts into the spoiler, and two nuts on the 2 studs that come out of the spoiler. they werent there till after the bodywork since i wasnt sure whether to spoiler on or not... the bootlid is easily replaced, but guards will need to be filled again and touched up if i want it off.

on a different note, anyone know whether there was any type of factory floor-mat available when these were new? i want some mats, but before i go get some generic black ones from kmart, ill see if i can do better!

allright, update time.
as of december (early last month), i finally got the car started. moved under its own power for the first time in years... for once i didnt have to bust my back pushing it around!
also replaced the coffe-pot part of the column.. again. im so glad i did, as its finally right and smooth. ignition is all great, and it wasnt as hard as i remembered!
finished painting the 15x7s a while back..

..and got some tires for them the other day. got some 225/60 R15 Toyos. very nice..

then on go the Repro billet centre-caps, and Repro Black plastic end nuts;

tried one on. going to put the rest on once the cars all finished getting fiddled with; kinda dont want them marked. hopefully get them redwalled by then too.. ;)

started putting alot of stickers on too. fun..

in even BETTER news. just got the car all tuned so it runs right. needed help, as im a tad clueless with it all. set the timing right, and carby sorted, so it idles nice and smooth now. so happy with it. bit rattly and whiney at the moment, but hoping thats got something to do with sitting dry for almost 4years... hope it will just smooth itself out a bit and quieten down. :)
couple pics from today:

running the stock exhaust at the moment..

its just there till it goes through rego. then ill get a nice one made up. its a bit ugly.. and sounds a bit nuffy.

anyway, thats almost it!
gonna organize an Unregistered Vehicle Permit tomorrow, and get the last few parts done:
- drive it to a/the panelbeaters and get the panels all adjusted.
- drive it to a mechanic to get a roadworthy done.
- get rego
- get 15x7s on, and exhaust and lowering springs/shocks in.
- enjoy. :p
hopefully all done in the next month or so.. since UVPs only last 30days! will be atleast 2weeks anyway though, as the custom plates i ordered today have to get made.
..and thats all assuming it goes through a roady fine!

sall for now. :D

That is fan-farkin-tastic. That colour just looks brilliant and I gotta say that yours is one of the best Resto-threads Ive ever seen on the internet. Lots of nice clear photos, good descriptions, quality work and helpful info. Youve done well.

Hope my projects look half as good.

Beautiful job RDS and a real credit to you. I see that you used the vinyl decals on the dash fascia though so a word of warning, dont leave your car locked up in the sun for too long.

Back in the 90s I did up a HJ ute for work, the silver GTS fascia was pretty scratched and at the time I preferred the look of the woodgrain style. I purchased some good quality 3M woodgrain vinyl adhesive and spent most of a day cutting it out and fitting it to the dash and console, it looked great and several people thought the dash was original. After a year or so however the vinyl began to shrink and crinkle up due to the heat from the car being left in the sun, once this happens it looks like crap.

This time around with my Sandman van I had the silver on the dash paint matched, masked up the dash and painted it. Took longer to mask it properly but at least I wont be re-doing the dash in a couple of years.

thanks fellas. :)

cheers for the tip about the dash absinth.
i really wanted to paint it; but couldnt imagine how s*** a job it would be to mask and paint the dash... good on ya for going to the effort!
i think ill buy another dash facia then.. and take my time with it. its easy to swap in later. :)

DID get the UVP for it yesterday too, and am taking it to a panelbeater bloke tomorrow to adjust the hell out of the panels and pop the lip on.
took the car for a run down the street and back, to make sure itl make the distance tomorrow; and awesome. it did fine. obviously didnt go up through the gears, but just so happy it did it. its been years since it moved on the street under its own power! :D

yeah, needs a little lowering; and a nicer exhaust!
drove this car fine the other day too. didnt overheat or cause any fuss. all went well! :)
making a s***E noise from what sounds like the auto though. like a constant knocking/clicking, with a whirr.. but from further back than the motor? didnt cause a problem, but truly s*** sound.

but, in good news..
got the lip on. makes the front of the car i reckon..

and the panels all lines up. bigger pics to show it off!

back to work now.. so it gets a bit harder. but i better have it regoed by the time the UVP is up!

Ive got a WB ute 350, T400 with a similar sounding noise. Thought it was the diff but then realised it was only in 1st gear. Soon as it shifts to 2nd its gone. Havent had time to investigate yet.

forgot id written that there!
turns out it was the flexplate cover thing not put back on right. it wasnt sitting right, and was getting hit by the flexplate. since its such thin sheet, it echoed and made a hell of a noise. very happy it was such a simple thing!

no idea whats wrong with yours though; i dont know enough about automatics. hope for you sake its something equally simple.

forums been down the last few weeks eh? :( been trying it near every day!
nothing too exciting, but got the exhaust made up. absolutley stoked with how well it turned out. :)

stock manifolds cleaned up with new studs, and stock 2" dual system all the way back, with a balance pipe up the front there. pretty much how it wouldve been when the car was new, but with louder mufflers. sounds brilliant and looks great!

in other news...

passenger seat was flexing when you sat in it. ages ago while trying to fix it, i had replaced the RHS hinge/spring area figuring that was the cause of the dramas. pulled the top seat back off and it turns out it wasnt the cause... the back of the seat was busted in two places.

thats the top right corner. the bottom of the seat back frame was split almost through aswell!
so took the seat back, and a spare seat back, to the trimmers and got it swapped over onto the new frame.

and back together, and back in the car.

gonna come out one more time in the future, as i want to get the herringbone in all the seats replaced with the reproduction material, and new, better, carpet in the car. the carpet in there now is a neat black loop-pile; but its a s***house mould.. and is baggy around the tunnel in the front. s***s me.

after driving the car around to get bits n pieces done to it; ive finally given in and put the passenger mirror i had on. was really putting it off as i didnt want to drill the holes (cant take it off if you do). i just dont want to scuff up the LHS of the car, because you cant see much of the side from the drivers seat.
was a NOS (but maybe later genuine-part?) stem, with a repro head on it.

looks neat enough anyway.

repro sticker from a local holden dealer too. get these from rare-spares nowadays. its one of the s***ter looking dealer stickers, but means something to me atleast.

and that new exhaust.

better pic of the tips:

needs a wash from when i drove it in the rain the other day!

just needs the suspension/brakes all redone now. soon...
