I own a so called Mingswood as well. And a so called Belmont.
Everything you have done i reckon is spot on my favourites are the cars that go back to original. They always look so special compared to the bland shapes of today. From 100 metres away it could be a Holden or a Ford. Not then though. An Xy Gt looked nothing like a 2 Door Hk g t Monaro coming down the road. Keep up the good work and post some pictures on the interior as you get there. Cant wait to see them.

glass went in monday/tuesday this week. effin finaly.


clips and urethane (sp?)....

biggest pain in the ass was after digging out and cleaning up the demisterless rear glass i HAD, was finding it had two horizontal marks across the middle from a visor or something. so i bit the bullet and bought a brand new rear screen to match the new front. they DO look really nice when new though. :)

shame is, the rear glass has no black boarder.. so you can see the glue!! crap. if i ever do this again (AND ANYONE WHO READS THIS AND IS GOING TO DO ONE), paint the window edge. if it was black, you wouldnt notice. on the yellow however, it is faaar too visible. gonna have to sort something for this :(


anyway, all extremley neat.. and looks great with all the stainless finally on. :)

then it was time to find all the other interior gear...

somehow my rear view mirrors had multiplied...

... different, but all the part numbers are the same?!? using the middle one anyway.
and the visors. not too bad nick surprisingly. :)


well.. thats all for now i guess. next and last real hurdle is the wiring.. everything else is just the easy little things i do myself. all good.. :)

as for cost, not too sure. depends how you want to go about things, and how much you want to do yourself. id say around the 20k mark though; 10thou for bodywork and paint, and another 10 for everything else.

anyway, more pics of a bit more progress:
needed to cover the door inspection holes before i stuck the doorcards on.


went to clarks rubber and bought some .3mm (ithink) plastic sheet. was 9bucks a meter or something. bought a meter and a half WHICH IS MORE THAN ENOUGH (just buy 1m!).


also got some sikaflex gluey stuff to stick it on with. this stuff can be an absolute shytefight if you arent careful! i think this is... 19bucks.. or something?


next, cut up the plastic to the shape of the inspection hole recess...


last thing i did before sticking the plastics on, was spray fish oil EVERYWHERE. had no idea what to do with it, so just sprayed the insides of the doors till it ran at the drip-holes. had to leave the doors open all day cos it wouldnt stop leaking. haha.. least it wont rust eh!


then put the clips on the backs of the doorcards, and with a bit of fiddling, got them on the doors!

very swish. :p

also have dug out a bunch of interior bits n pieces to neaten up n put in.



actually have 2 pairs of those A-pillar trims. 1 pair metal, the other plastic! went with the metal ones even though that had started to rust where they are pushed down into the dash corner/inner cowl areas.
cleaned them, ground away the rust, scuffed up the rest, and did em in satin black:


also, under-dash has been broken in the past, and had a brown replacement :/
no drama though!



interestingly, got a couple of other bits lately. venetian is a very nice repro from somewhere in NSW, while the spare wheel bolt and handbrake cover (mine was cracked all over) came from people on ebay.




well, wiring still needs to be done. got out the old loom which id carefully labelled and put away:

had to lay out that mess. dont need it, but whoever does the job of making a new loom and rewiring the car might need it for reference.
its been absolutley butchered over the years. has been hacked for the twin headlight front, gas setup, and audio wiring.

thats going to be a helluva job, and i have NO idea about it. really not too sure with wiring.

oh.. found the dash too.

..been cut for a radio, which is a bit of a shame. check the kays out though! hehhe

Looking Good RDS

Mine has a long way to go compared to that...if you put thewm together it would be the twin that looks the same but is not quite as pretty.

Gives me lots of inspiration but.

sbeen 2 months since ive updated this, but not alots happened. called an auto-elec back in august who i want to wire the car, said it was all good, but there would be a couple week wait. fair enough though.. im in no rush.
well, i sorta just left it in the back of the garage and pretty much forgot about it. :S
Couple things did happen in the mean-time though:

first thing was the dash pad. i had two twin-vent ones lying around, so i got them out to look them over etc. one was brown, and the other is the orig one from the car (not in bad nick either!)
written on the underside of the gauge area is a date, 6-4-76 - a week or so before the car was built. pretty cool..

anyway, black one (even though it IS the orig) really was too good to recover when the shagged brown one would get pretty much thrown away anyway. so the black one has been put aside as an original piece for some other day, and the brown one was dropped off at the Dashdoctor (?) in vic (place just off bell st).
not any old trimmer can recover these as the vinyl is sorta vacuumed onto the plastic. anyway, a couple weeks and *cough* $385 later, i got it back. costy, but very nicely done. :)


only other thing needed was two holes drilled for the small GTS badge that goes next to the vent.

easy to pluck off, its held on by two small washer/clips on the back. had to be very gentle, as it seems like itd be fkn hard to find a replacement..
neat trick to lining up the holes too;

mash foil over the area, and punch the holes. foil holds its shape awesome, so on it goes to the other dashpad, and theres the holes!


anyway, only other things i can think of (well, found pics of... :S):
putting the old exhaust on (will get a nice twin system done when the car can drive)

and venetian in:


looks fkn ace. wasnt happy with the look at first, but grew on me and is def how i imagined it now. very cool.

alllso...
took my four (now very surface rusted) widened GTS wheels to a powdercoater yesterday. after spending half-an-hour choosing what silver i wanted (christ they can do alot of effects!), i left them there. its a place in cambelfield - hopefully they do a good job. cost is a bitch though... as it is going to set me back $100 to sandblast and powdercoat each wheel! thats 400bucks just to paint that set of wheels!
ah well, least i only have to do it once eh!
