I was wondering when floor shift (T-bar etc) on automatic cars started.
1/ In general?
2/ In a Holden badged car?
I have a guess as to the answer but no clue to whether I’m right or not.
My guesses are:
1/ 195? Corvette and
2/ HB Holden Torana, beating HK Holden

I think it was 1953 Corvette for floor shift Powerglide but it wasn’t a T-bar or console shift from memory. HK didn’t get console shift until the pilot GTS’s in April-May 1968 and in production until July 1968. It was the first Holden to have console shift. The HB Viva had an auto from early 1967 so the HB Torana could easily have got there first. Thought about it more, both HK and HB are optional console shift auto. The first Holden to have it standard was HQ GTS350, after about mid 1973 there were no more manuals. The first Statesman was HJ Caprice I think.
