I know this has been asked before, but there seems to be no definitive answer. I have a HR sedan plated as follows: Body HR225M- 1771B Trim 875- E55 Paint 585 8568 Insert 120 There are some suggestions that code 120 means auto, but clearly not if the body code says manual. So... is there anyone who can tell me what the 120 code means? The only "unusual" thing about the car is that it has factory original black golf ball headlining. It’s just the package code for the driveline of 186 auto with no other mechanical options. I’ll go check, something not right with this tag, it shouldn’t have an insert code unless Dandenong bodied. I think this might be a late Valley Plant car assembled from a hard trimmed and painted Dandenong body, hence the M means Dandenong not manual. Will check for you later. |

There's no sign that this car has ever had an auto fitted. e.g. the original front end doesn't have a cross shaft bearing on the subframe.
It is an early car as evidenced by the lack of seatbelt mounting points.
Another oddity (which may tie in with your explanation) is that although it has a Brisbane plate, there is no plant suffix on the stamped body number.
Strange?

Does the chassis number look like HRxxxxxM? It has the B for QLD assembly in the BODY number. 120 is definitely 186 auto. Given it looks to be a split plant build it could be an error where the wrong mechanical back for the body was used at the Fortitude Valley VAP. Edit, I just remember that the old Valley is plant closed during HD and Acacia Ridge started with a VAP initially. So this is probably an early Acacia Ridge assembly using a Dandenong body. I know this has all been covered before and I don't want to drag the forum through another rehash.. just that I'm curious.
Chassis number stamped into the firewall is HR001234 (Not the real number but it does have leading zeroes).
There is no plant code suffix inside or outside the hoop.

So suffix on the chassis number at all? That sounds odd. Easiest way is to post up photos.
I just went and looked at some tag images I have for early Acacia Ridge HR.
It is normal for the tags to look like HR225A-594B. Yours reads HR225M-1771B. Totally normal. HR225A-594B has a chassis number of HR00666B and the second B is really feint, over the other side of the rib. None of the tags I have from that period have an INSERT line package code though, the fact yours has one tells me it has to be a Dandenong body BUT it should have an M not a B on the chassis number and the tag should be stamped not embossed.
I do have a few other tags in this vicinity with stamped BODY ID tags (like Dandenong tags) rather than embossed (as in stamped from above). However they read like:
HR225-B1866M. These have an Acacia Ridge PSN tag on them. But I'm not sure what the chassis number looks like. These are definitely Dandenong bodied.
Is your tag embossed or stamped?

Very hard to tell from the images I have. Unfortunately the old girl and I are separated by about four hours ATM.
Will get better pics next time I'm there and post them.
Tag appears embossed but don't hold me to it.
