I would say not, based on the paint combination number.

1982 signifies a Tahitian Blue (2B-008) car, but the number I have for a Tahitian Blue Shadowtone car is 4006.

The 381 pack has most of the correct options though. It translates to 4.2 V8/Tri-Matic/ 3.36 rear axle/dual exhaust/ rear head restraints & central locking.

commodorenut may have more info.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

Dr Terry, hope you can help.
I’ve got a VH SLE Tahitian Blue that I’m getting close to paint.
My tags read;
Trim - 1982-29Y
Paint - 2B 008-D
This would indicate a solid Tahitian Blue, not shadowtone.

The shadow tone version tags would read something like;
TRIM 4006-29Y
PAINT 2J011-D

Only focusing on the exterior paint colour, I’m taking it that the 4006 refers to Tahitian Blue. I can’t seem to find this anywhere on Google. Is there reference somewhere that the 4006 is paint colour 2B 008-D ?

Were there ever 2 version of the Tahitian Blue?

Why I ask, when I compare images of a shadowtone to a one solid colour, the Tahitian Blue on the shadowtone looks lighter.

I’ve shown images to two different people, and they both commented that the Tahitian Blue on the shadowtone is lighter?

Could just be lighting angles, but the more I research the 2, the Tahitian Blue on the shadowtone does look lighter.

Hope you can help.

1982 is the GMH paint code for Tahitian Blue all over, 4006 will be the GMH combination code for two different paints, in this case the two colours used. In prior years this normally signified a white roof over another colour but the same thing applied once GMH started to two metallics as well during the 70's and that continued into the 80's. 4006 is Tahitian Blue over Mercury Silver if I remember correctly. 2B 008-D is the refinish code for the paint from the original paint manufacturer. Earlier the cars had a TOP line under the PAINT line on the BODY ID tag, and that is where the roof colour went (normally white). I think early VH used that type of tag but it was replaced with a BUILT line between 1981 and 1982.

2B008 - D Tahitian Blue Metalic Shade No. 34081 - DULUX

GENERAL MOTORS HOLDEN TAHITIAN BLUE 20092 1981 - METALLIC
GENERAL MOTORS HOLDEN TAHITIAN BLUE 2B008 1981 1982 METALLIC

looks like 2 codes equals 2 colours (or a change of manufacturer)

29Y Trim is Deep Blue - shadow No 31555 - Code No 3B002

Tahitian Blue was a standard colour on SLX sedan and Wagon
Tahitian Blue was a standard colour and Shadow Tone on SLE sedans

Thanks guys, and Balfozar, I just looked up https://www.uniquecarsan....au/colour_codes_gmh_M-Z and just noticed the same thing, so seems to be 2 versions to the Tahitian Blue.

What has just confused me more, is that my VH has a year/month compliance of 1981/01 and I have paint code 2B 008-D, so accord to the above, I would say mine should be the earlier of the Tahitian Blues based on year of manufacture but I have the paint code of the later model… however, mine looks the darker version of the 2, and when I see shadowtone SL/E’s with the LIGHTER Tahitian Blue over Silver, they seem to be of a later model, 82 or 83, but I have the later model paint code… sooo confused. Unless mine has been painted some time in its previous life and was painted the older DARKER version Tahitian Blue?

I don’t know how to post photos on this forum to show what I mean…
