Electric water pump drive. This may be used to allow me to use the existing drive belt to run the power steering pump I need to fit. One of many possible solutions I have come up with.

The motor mounting bracket that came with the water pump kit just wouldn't fir my motor. Nothing wrong with the bracket it's just that my motor has so many non standard fittings, belts hoses etc something was always in the way. The only solution was to remake the bracket to suit my engine.

This is a stock gilmer crank pulley as supplied with most kits. I need to use it with a V belt pulley to drive my A/C compressor. I don't have space to fit these simply bolted together and then onto the crank so the whole setup needs to be shortened.

This is the way the two pullies are bolted together. I need to get the toothed belt drive down close to the V belt groove so that I can get alignment with my alternator and power steering pump. The hub will need to be machined off the toothed pulley.

Here is the toothed pulley with the hub machined off and machined to an interference fit with the V pulley. I will press these together then weld the 2 together. A bit of final machining to realign things and I should be ok...

V6 Commodore power steering pump with an aftermarket gilmer style water pump pulley fitted. Bolt pattern is the same as a Holden V8 and it just needed the centre hole enlarged from 5/8" to 32mm.

Pulleys have been welded together.

Mockup of pulleys on a spare engine..

A good comparison of an original no power steering gilmer lower pulley, lower in pic, compared to my modified one. Don't know why they don't just make them with the extra V for all applications.

Fabricated engine mounts will be fitted when the front end comes out to fit the power steering. These will be stronger, neater and smaller than the current setup. This makes more room for the larger extractors that are planned..

My new engine mounts. These are available for $300 plus however they would be a compromise so I am making my own specifically for my aftermarket front end.

Landcruiser leaf spring bushes are the perfect size for my plan.

Crush tubes were made to suit the bushes. I was going to tap the tube to allow the use of a neat button head bolt in each end. However the steel was that hard I gave up and will use a 7/16" ARP Stainless head stud with 12 point nuts.

Crush tube in place

Outer tube machined and ready to go. Once the front end is fitted I can fab the actual mount and tack it in place. Then it's off to the welders for a nice TIG weld..

Assembled Bush

Engine support bar made from left over RHS and round steel. A length of 1/2" Brooker Rod is all I needed to buy.

I made the end feet to fit neatly over the EH guard bolts. Some rubber hose over the foot will protect the paint.

Hooks will attach to a length of chain which will in turn be connected to the motor.

Beginning of some neat covers for the lower control arm and lower shock bolts, A simple cap will finish these off.

Finished covers.

Cover fitted to the lower control arm. They look a bit big and chunky here however I wll wait until the whole front end is assembled. This will give me a better concept of the scale needed. They can be shortened and reduced in diameter if needed.

I thought I would experiment with a piece of scrap. I like this new design for the control arm bolt cover. not sure if it would pass rego inspection though!!
