Hi All

Me (HJ Sedan) and a fried (HQ Wagon) both have Salisbury diffs that we would like to upgrade to LSD.

Is there anyway this can be done (i.e. with a new diff centre) or is the only way to buy a new housing, axles and centre.

Thanks in advance

Mark

The only difference is the hemisphere. There are 2 x types:

2.6 and 2.78

3.08, 3.36, 3.55, 3.90 and 4.44

Finding a centre is very hard today. There is a mob in Sydney (I think it is Sydney) that do conversions using BW LSD centres, this might be a better idea for an original collectable. If it is just a everyday HQ-WB though, maybe consider a complete diff out of a VN-VSIII.

The conversion mob in Sydney is Diff Technics in Kogarah:

Thanks guys

With the VN - VSIII diff, will that bolt straight in or are modifications required.

Additionally, i would assume that the VN/VS is disc brake, will that change the stud pattern or require modifications to the braking system?

Thanks for your help?

Mark

VN-VSIII diff will require welding on of hanger brackets and tailshaft mods. Brakes are discs as you state, but this is easily overcome by getting some handbrake cables made up, adapting the flexible brake line and using a HZ disc brake master cylinder or converting yours to run disc brakes. Stud pattern is the major concern. A diff shop should be easily able to change it to HQ pattern, or fit Commodore pattern rotors to the front.

you can just replace your centre if you want to, either with a salisbury if you can get a good one or a new borgwarner 4 pin type. try G&J diffs on ebay (search for salisbury)they do a new 4 pin centre for $600, this way you can keep your existing housing, axles and brakes if you want to.
