Hi guys,
I am installing a monster Tacho which I got off a mate, because its second hand I got no instructions or anything with it. I have found instructions on the net but I dont understand what it means by connecting to Ignition???? Exactly where am I suppose to be connecting it to, is it a fuse or what??? Please help.
Also I cant find anywhere which tells me where to connect the plug from the shift light to.
Any help much appreciated

Have never seen a monster tach but usually on an electric tach you get the pick up from the ignition wire on the coil. The shift light I would guess is just wired up to a power source and then adjusted on the tach to pick the revs you want to shift at. As i said I am just guessing and it is hard when the actual gauge is not in my hands. Someone will know for sure though on here.

red is main power, you want it to power up when you turn on the car, ie hook it up to the power wire to your cd player or something similar
white wire is to turn on your illumination light, the light inside of the tacho, hook this up to the wires that power your dash lights, can usually find this wire at the headlight switch
me personally i hook it up to the ignition power so the lights on constantly when the key is on, i dont care if the lights on during the day as you dont see it anyway when your headlights are off

So you pretty much hook up the red and white wires to the same thing?

i hook red and white to the same thing, it will work
what shift lite do you have? all the ones iv had normally are just a globe in a tube that has a single wire, the tacho has an extra wire you plug this into
your tacho im not sure, is there any other wires other then whats in the instructions above?
some other shift lights work like a tacho and need to be wires up exactly the same, like a stand alone shift light

shift light just plugs in, should have a 2 pin plug there for it.
If you didnt get the shift light with the tacho, you can buy a big obtrusive and expensive autometer version, or make one with a 12v globe and lampholder, the 2 pin plug is only +12v and ground anyway.
I usually just splice the white wire into the existing dash lamps and leave the headlight switch alone, much of a muchness really whether lighting is on at night or all the time.

some tachos had no provision for shift light, autometer do sell a standalone which takes preset chips for triggering, or you can can get dial adjustable, etc etc.
dont necessarily have to be autometer, there are a bunch to choose from.

nah i dont, but there are 2 wires coming out of the shiftlight which go into a connection on the end, pretty sure its that 2 pin plug you were talking about.

The tach would have to have an output wire somewhere on it to trigger the shift light. If there are no other wires or a plug as on the diagram you posted then I dont see how the shift light could work. The tach would have a sensor in it that knows when you have hit 5000rpm for example and this would make the wire for the shift light live making the light work. Make sure you have picked a wire that is not live when the key is in the off position or you will have a nice flat battery if you splice the two power wires together. 4 wires?...earth...dash lights ...power(accessorys)...negative coil..shift lights are usually internal.

the tacho in the link has no internal shift light, and looks like no provision for external.
