Hi guys,
I am having some issues with my distributor. To begin with, I cannot start the car (XD Fairmont, 351C), I can definitely hear fuel going into the carbie, but there doesnt seem to be a spark...as far as I know, the plugs and leads are fine. When I had a look under the dissy cap, it seems to me that the gap between the cam and the contact point is non-existant. In fact when I moved the dissy cam with my fingers it actually rubs against the contact point and pushes it outwards. The screws that hold the contact in place where it is supposed to be seem to have lost their thread and I cannot tighten them too much.
Does anyone know what could be causing this and what I can do to fix it, or if there is another reason I am having problems.
Here is a photo of what I am talking about, hopefully it will explain it better than I have! http://members.optusnet.com.au/scott-351/car/dissy.jpg

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Scott

I'm not real up on electronic dizzies but have you checked to see if your getting any spark from your coil? Also check the coil lead itself. Pull a lead off a plug and then hold it over the plug while someone is cranking the engine. If you see a spark

It's not an electronic dissy. It seems the points need adjusting or replacing. Always replace the condenser as well or the condenser will break down soon as the two wear in together. It seems the thread of the screw is had it, in which case buy another on

looking at the picture, its definately an electronic dizzy. Your reluctor is hitting the magnetic pickup. The magnetic pick up needs to be screwed back down, as you mention in you original post. You have already diagnosed the problem, a stripped thread in
