Hi Warren .. long live the CV8Z auto! LOL ...it's just because i dislike a "short ratio" manual...which is gobbledygook for a wide ratio "thrash through the cogs" gearbox...

...IMHO these power sucking 'boxes make a hash out of a decent car.... a true close ratio gearbox will run out to about 70 MPH in first gear, and beyond that the torque of a good engine will keep the whole thing on song to its upper limit... be-it GT or GTS 350....or even a CV8-Z

Neither did I Warren, but I ventured over to the dark side to check before I typed it. Apparently there are at least two authenticated XW GTHO 1s with factory auto.
It was probably fairly undriveable with that camshaft and an auto, so they killed it early.

Hi Silverfox/Nick. This is Peter.
Firstly ,many thanks for the offer of assistance re the red paint but I am OK.
I may be mistaken but was your red HK at the Ballarat nationals ? If your car is the one I think it is (and saw at Ballarat)then there is no comparison between yours and the blue 327 sold at Motoclassica recently.
The Blue one was done for commercial profit (and thats OK ) but that makes a big difference between a car done for personal interest rather that profit.
Re values. The blue car hammered at $135K (I was there and heard this number myself) but is listed by Bonhams as being hammered at $140K so when you add in the buyers premium it sold for between $152K and $157K.
Also heard that a red/parchment HK 327 was sold recently to NZ via Terry Healey (Old Time Australia) for $190 K.
Anybody know more about this car and/or sale ?

Hi Pete and thanks for your positive response.

Yes it is the car at Ballarat. According to Ben Stewart and others the Picardy Red car is the car considered to be "Car of the Day" at the very first Nationals (Wangaratta)back in 1998.

The effort which went into the red car is still evident today with recent Nationals trophies (Warwick) and a car of day at the Sydney all Holden day. A true credit to the late Jeff Brown. Please see the following story via link:http://www.fastlane.com.au/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=25178

A few things I need to add about Jeff Brown.

*He nicknamed the car "Nemesis". It was completed not long before he fell ill. I have met his family and they informed me that he put his heart and sole into the project and it was treasured by his whole family.

*He was a cameraman with the ABC for many years and he went to tech college to learn panel beating, painting and lead wiping.

*He covered large distances in the quest for the best and most accurate parts during the resto.

A few things about the car.

*As the present holder of the vehicle I feel a responsibility to continue keeping it well.

*This car's restoration was started in the very early nineties and it is a constant challenge trying to keep it good.

* After seven years of ownership I have learnt much about (in particular) Type two engine HK327GTS Brisbane build Monaros. I am always on the lookout for accurate parts.

* Not long after I bought the car my friendship with Ben Stewart began. Over the years I have had much dialogue and help from him in continuing to get this car more accurate and will say we are now close. Probably the most accurate restored Model of its type.

Other people who have been so helpful are Nick Gontas, Paul Guintini, Phil Bartolo, Byron Rich, Good ol' Dave Smith and Simon Pinnegar and Warren Turnbull.

Cheers
Nick.

FUI, but 3 GTHO windsor AUTOMATIC cars were built and sold, but are tagged manual, factory done, but off production line after they were built(commonly know as 3999 cars which are factory internal cars so originally delivered to themselves)and then never converted back, sold off as test mules, with FMX trans, one is starlight blue to be exact

...nice info mate .. thanks and cheers....

...i'll chuck a cat amongst the pigeons and say that an "off line" factory car doesn't hold up too well way down the track when a fella offers up his SIDO number on one of these, only to be told she was built as a manual and that's all they can tell him(her?) about it's origins ??....

...the plate tells it how it was ...not what it became......

Respectable people and I am saying I appreciate them.
