A mate has just bought a 302/single rail XC, it had a suss clutch when he bought it so he had that replaced straight up, and had the gearbox overhauled at the same time. He now finds that the box shifts nicly when the car is cold, but grinds when shifting once hot, particularly when downshifting, and selecting reverse.

Any suggestions?

There are several things that you can check.

Is the clutch disengaging fully? When cold the oil would be thicker and possibly just able to cope with a slightly dragging clutch.

What oil does the box have in it? BW T5's run auto trans fluid but single rails do not as it's too thin and will probably just cope when it's a bit thicker from being cold but not once it warms up and thins a bit.

Is the box under warranty?

HTH Jim..

Oil is 75w semi-synthetic, not sure about the warranty but I'm sure he will be talking to bloke who rebuilt it.

He says there is no adjustment in the hydraulic clutch, should there be? (He does think it seems to be disengaging).

thanks

you need an adjustable push rod on the slave cylinder when fitting most aftermarket clutchs, does it have one?
