Les, have Rares thought about reproducing the front half of the GTS speedo and tacho cases. The rear white section is usually good but the front blacked out part of the housing 80% of the time has broken mounting lugs.

The part No. MNF-148 at the top of the housing is the same part used on the speedo and the tacho on HJ, HX and HZ. I have six HJ, HX GTS dashes and out of the twelve housings nine of them have broken or cracked mounting lugs.

I had a Tacho years ago that all the lugs had broken off, I had to glue metal tabs to the housing so I could screw it in place to stop it rattling around in the dash.

Those numbers refer to the actual manufacturer for identification means. As there were two companies Flexdrive & VDO that made gauges you have to check which one made the parts.Usually this is moulded into the rear part.

That only applies up to HQ.... from HJ onwards all GTS instruments were Flexdrive, in fact I dont ever recall seeing any VDO instruments in HX onwards, not sure about the HJ strip speedo. Just as a side note I have never seen a HQ GTS speedo or Tacho that wasnt made by Flexdrive either.

You are right about the MNF number though, I just checked some standard HX and HZ speedos and they have the same number.

The GTS speedo and tacho housings are unique and differ from the standard housings so you cant swap them over for better ones from a standard speedo.

Sounds good Les. I dont know if the whole gage is needed. Good speedo repair companies can fix them no worries. Not sure there would be a market for them.
The surrounds etc are defiantly worth while. Maybe also the needle as these as sometimes broken. To be honest even on a very old damaged gauge the speedo face with the markings etc is nearly always in good condition. Sometimes may need new white or red on them but this is easily done.
If a new speedo is say going to cost $150 than Myself i would prefer to get an original recond. Replace the lens and housing and get it calibrated.

Cheers
Jason
