A quality 350 stroker kit is about $2200. Plus machine work and the cost of the cores (block & heads) and then add the roller rockers, cam, lifters etc. Just make sure the parts used are good, not Chinese junk.

who is the engine builder?

i cant see a 355 bottom end bought, machined and assembled (properly) for 4.5k let alone a whole engine.

Tread warily...although id still like to know who is building it for that money, must be getting killer prices on parts (unless using CHEAP JUNK), machining it himself (with PROPER attention to the process), and assembling for next to nothing (by a CAREFUL engine builder) and i dont know of many shops who work like that and charge 4.5k for a whole donk...

questions to ask:

What brand are ALL the parts listed for the price advertised?

What exactly is included in the build for 4.5k?

Most importantly, How long is the warranty and whats covered?

Get it in writing on a company letterhead signed by the guy, DO NOT pay (real) cash, DO get a receipt AND be prepared to go to court IF it blows up and you find the parts ARE NOT what was listed...

Any engine guy worth his salt would be only too happy to provide accurate details of the parts used, and a realistic offering of hp level, and longevity of the engine.

My engine builder actually let me stand there and watch the thing get built, I stood in the dyno room while it howled away, and when it eventually burned up (oil pressure misshap, ie it didnt have any at 660 and WFO lol) , looked after me on the repair costs. (about 2yrs AFTER the warranty expired!)

ok, it may not be a "simple" street engine, but realistically my engine differs only in cam/heads compared to a much milder build and nothing exotic went into it but it showed me that they were people to be trusted to look after my build, and i wouldnt hesitate to spend my money there again.

Realistically, i doubt youll build an entire 3.48 cranked engine with 90% new parts, designed to work together and be reliable for under about 8k these days depending of course on what youll reuse from an existing 308.

Well if thats the case then hell be happy and confident in telling you exactly whats in there.

Everyone here is right. You simply must be sure. I really hope it as as good as it sounds, because if so, score!
