This query involves the change of VIN style at the introduction of the VY series. At VY the VIN changed from the older style with a 6H8 prefix which had been around since the intro of the 17-digit "ISOVIN" (@ VN) to a new type beginning with 6G1.

AFAIK this began precisely at the start of VY production which was the start of MY03 model year (Sept 2002). At this same time the WH Statesman & Caprice which were still production thru to the release of WK in April 2003. So these later WH also got the newer 6G1 VIN for those last 8 months or so.

But what about the V2 Monaros? V2 Series 1 was released in Dec 2001 & was replaced by the V2 Series 2 in Dec 2002.

Did Monaros built between VY release (Sept 2002) & December 2002 get the newer MY03 VIN.

It would make sense on the production line that all of the cars which were built on the same basic platform received the same series of VIN ID. Could you imagine the confusion if the Commodores & the LWB cars got the newer VIN but the Monaros built on the same line on the same day got the older VIN.

So which is it? Does anybody know of a Monaro built in this timeframe that would answer the question.

Ben is the one to ask Terry. It also all depends upon when tags were stamped and/or embossed. Before or after the build. For example, what I mean is during the 70's Pagewood put the VIN tag on at the very end of the VAP. Whereas Acacia Ridge put it one in the BAP prior to paint. Meaning they were predicting completion. Normally that wasn't an issue, but if you were at say 29th August and you put the BODY and VIN tags on the body prior to paint, using say a C for 1973 in the VIN. But the car is delayed and not completed until say 10th September. So instead of having a D for 1974 it has a C. But the Safety Compliance Plate will have a 1974 build on it ie 9/73.
