Were stripes ever recorded at the factory? I can get confirmation that the car was painted Gunmetal but am trying to find out if it came with orange stripes from factory as i guess they could have been put on sometime in the last 50 years.

They would have been in the original GMH mainframe Vehicle Master Listing out of which they printed the broadcast sheets, every part and option that went into every car was printed on the Broadcast Sheets. But I have never found out if GMH (later Holden) ever backed up all that data and even if they did I doubt any magnetic backup of it would still exist even if you could read it. All that survives today for certain is the reports that were printed out for Service and Warranty purposes that were Microfiched in the 1970's. Being for Service and Warranty those reports only ever contained identity and mechanical information. There was one other one that we know of run in the late 70's but only for late LX SLR5000 and SS with 5.0L (all of those which had option A9X applied to them). It had other information on the report. One thing that makes me doubt that the data ever survived much past the late 70's is the fact that some of the VAP locations reached their allocated PSN maximum value and reset eg Acacia Ridge reset to H100000 after it hit H499999 so vehicle data would start to be overwritten. If you have ever worked on these old mainframe open databases you'd understand how easy it was to overwrite data, just like a big spreadsheet where you can only see one set of data at a time, as in one row or one column. |

The dealers were also sent a copy of the Broadcast Sheet for each car if memory serves me correctly. |

I think that when the GTS/4 was released in 73 stripes became standard on all GTS from then until the end of HQ anyway. So if yours was built after GTS/4 release, I’d say it was likely they were there from new. Not certain but likely. Happy to be corrected if I’ve got that wrong. |
