Can anyone shed any light on the bumperettes with the rubber strip listed in WB parts catalogue? I have seen a couple of sets but they are very unusual. We’re they ever offered on the Ute/van from the factory or were they just a dealer fit option that no one knew about?

Do you mean bumper bar Over Riders? If so they would be a Dealer fitted accessory.

No, they are the normal rear bumperettes that all utes and vans had, but they had a rubber insert the same as the WB Statesman front bar.

I've never seen these on a real car. They may have been an option (or accessory) at the time. PO number VE5 (Front & Rear Bumper Bar Rub Strip) does appear in the option list so it may have been been a real thing.

There are several items like this in the WB commercial range. In the parts catalogue they detail a rear screen demister glass for panel vans. Again I've never seen one but they would be handy, as WB panel van upper glass will fit back to HD !!

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

There is also BO6, XU4 and B47 listed for WB and I’ve never seen a single car with any of them. Also not sure what BO6 got you on WB, unless that is what the early WB Holden van and cab-chassis with the Kingswood front was. I haven’t seen a detracted GVW on a WB ute or van and never seen a van with Kingswood full length headlining.

The bumperettes definitely exist. There has been a couple of sets pop up lately. I can’t post a picture of them unfortunately.
Wonder if they had plans for them but never actually used them? They were produced though.

Sorry to dig this old thread up again, but another Kingswood has popped up with them. Same family from new but no recollection of them being specially ordered. In the parts book they list 4 bumpers for utes/vans; painted non rub strip, chrome non rub strip, painted with rub strip and chrome with rub strip.
Has anyone ever seen the painted ones on a WB in either configuration? Did they have painted non rub strip on earlier series?
What were the painted ones for in WB and are these perhaps a hangover from the still born WB Sandman?

Sandman would be the same trimmings as Kingswood so would have had chrome bars. The painted bars were for the original base spec vehicles I think meaning the round headlight versions.

The main reason you’d rarely see them is they would only be on retail order WB which only a select few ever would be. Most WB commercials would have been built for sale (stock order) and apart from colour there wasn’t all that many options that would require a retail order. The 5.0L SVO cars certainly would be. Or maybe if you wanted a manual 4.2 (meaning 4spd) with integrated A/C and bench seat in a rarer colour then maybe. Then you’d have to also tick the rubber bump strip option.

Look at it this way. How many HJ to HZ commercials do you think we’re ever made with bump strips?

Yes clearly it wasn’t something that even dealers new much about to promote. Just seems strange to offer them but no one new they existed. The Ute I recently saw them on was a V8 Kingswood, bench seat with column trimatic in red, didn’t even pick a sports dash, yet it has these odd bumperettes.
But why offer the bump strip on a painted bumper for a basic Ute?
As far as I know all the standard round headlight utes had chrome bumpers, but I could be wrong.

There were lots of obscure options that weren't obvious unless you went looking.

I'm sure I remember the original 1980 Holden ute, van and cab-chassis with painted front bar as well as chrome on some. Similar happened in HQ and later on cab-chassis, you could option an appearance package that got you chrome grille and bar plus hubcaps IIRC. When the whole WB Holden range moved to the big square lights (no longer just Kingswood) al bars were chrome I think.

V37 is the rpo code for chrome bars front and rear.

I've been told the Hawkesbury Valley Holden parts delivery ute had a set of the chrome bump strip rear bumperettes back in the day.

What did the Magnum utes have? I've never seen a shot from the back.

The red one on a Facebook page has chrome but can’t see if they have the rub strips. Seems that the couple that went through HDT were all just private customer orders and I don’t think HDT ever actually offered a Magnum Ute to order. I could be wrong but that seems to be how it was. The white one that was at Dunedoo was built from a 6 cylinder standard Ute so it could have been anything. The red one is back with its original owner apparently. Just looks like a WB Kingswood with Caprice front and Group three 253. None of the chrome is even colour coded.
