Gday there. I am looking at buying a 1974 HQ Statesman Deville. I have pic's of it but they don't really show much. It does look a lot like this one (same colour 'n all) but is not in as good condition.

Basically it has 70000 original miles on the clock and is what you would expect the car to look like for an original that age. It is completely unmolested down to the AM radio and original hubcaps etc. Interior is all original down to the carpets and the seats are in ok condition, just a bit of wear and tear. All badges are there in good nick too. It has a column shift 308 and the only things it needs for a RWC are new exhaust and windscreen. There are a few chips of paint on the nose cone but this is due to the fact it was a country car. My issue is that the guy first asked $12K when we first met. I took it for a spin last weekend and offered him $8500 as that is what i reckon it is worth to me. He said $10500 with the RWC. I am torn at the moment as i really want the car (I will look after it and maintain it in it's original condition, not change it in anyway) for a few years. Should i bite the bullet and just offer the $10500 or sweat it out while he advertises it online (he reckons he'll get $15000 for it but I have not seen him advertising it. Is it worth the $10500 or should I hedge my bets and wait for another week or so. Any advice would be hugely appreciated as I have been living in the UK for the last 8 years and not in tune with the market for Statesman's over here. I really want the damn thing but $10500??? Thanks fellas.

As Donald Trump once said "when negotiating you have to be prepared to walk away".
Its a classic case of its worth what someone (you) are prepared to pay.

If you really want it offer him $10,000 if you can afford to pay that otherwise take Mr Tr

stick to your guns at $8500 he will not sell it for $15,000 even at 10 he will struggle, nobody is paying top dollar for anything at present. He will not lower the price until you show less interest. Offer him 8500 and leave your number with him .

The engine is not from a HQ statesman its from a HZ it has a ZT prefix a HQ statesman would be 11QT.
The body looks to be resprayed and so does the engine bay, early Holdens have a 5 digit odometer the car could have done 170,000.
The seats cloth doesn`

Yes, I agree. Do you reckon if I took some more detailed pics of the car I am looking at and put them online you could advise me, based on the fact that I dont know a lot about it, if the HQ Deville is worth $10K? What else would you need to know?

We would need to know exactly how many ounces of gold are in the boot to bring the value of a 308 HQ Deville up to 10k

If you want a HQ Deville that one on Australian Muscle Cars is probably worth closer to $10k at the moment. Its not all that original in some areas though.
Id tell him $8,500 or walk. Wait for a nice original 350 at $12,500-$15,000. Itll be a better inve

Also show him these and tell him hes absolutely dreaming at $15,000. In the current climate you possibly would be able to buy either of these for $4,000 less than the asking price (except for the cheapy, but even it may be better value for you). The Custo

Heres an original 350 engine out of one too. Only the bottom end is original HQ though.

By chance I just found this. Buy it. Forget the rest. Its one of the first lot of 350 engined HQs. Probably in the first 100 or so HQ 350 engined cars produced.

Edit - bugger going there.
