Basketcasebear got me thinking. what if the aussie gov never supported Aussie made cars. what would the average car nut be going on about. pre 1985? that are with in reach of the average aussie. datsun 240K? skyline coupe? rambler hornet,rebel? if you go back earler triumph 2500? back in 1963 wolseley or freeway?
what do you think would of been the go.
6 cyl utes? toyota crown only?
All i can say it thank God we have aussie cars. it looks like it would be unbearable.

would you not opt for the yenko all aluminium 427 byron, with the option of over 500HP which cost more then the car?

ZL-1 Camaro (as per Bob Janes) were all alloy 427 if that is what you mean. That would be my choice, and if not an L88 (427 with alloy heads on cast block). In either case with M22 Muncie and 12-bolt.

Next choice probably a Dodge Charger with 426 Hemi

when i lived in chilliwack canada there was a complete 1969 charger not an RT but an optioned 440 the car was complete and gold and an almost perfect body it was at the pick a part wreckers and he wanted $2500 when i went back it was sold....

BCB for a example on newer Holdens, I finished repairing a VQ statesman suspension recently with genuine parts and was surprised by the different origins of the parts.
There were parts from Australia, France, Germany, Great Britain,
Italy, Netherlands,
