hi all, i have a 4 speed sandman van and the shifter linkage has a fair bit of play in it. can these be re cond to make them stiff again or is it just replace. also will a curved shifter from a bench seat model fit and work ok with bucket seats or will it foul anywhere. many thanks, ian.

cut the gear stick off curved one and weld it on the new linkages
not sure about fixing them
can get new from rare spares $300+
if you can weld ttry building up the linkages with weld, then grind down they get sloppy from use and wear out..

Ours was a real mongrel to get into reverse and that was after the box rebuild so we purchased a new one and now it works like a new one which of course it should.

I believe that the components are heat treated to harden them so cutting and pasting might not be the way to go.I fitted a new shifter and avoided any problems. It feels like new.

the curved one , or "1 ton shifter", will work fine with your bucket seats.
just look silly.

A good backyard way of fixin' these sloppy shifters is to keep the rear handbrake cable clips / brakeline clips (horseshoe shape) and jam em in there!
