after removing drivers side door on my hz ute,the door mounting plates dropped to the bottom of channel.the bottom plate can be put back into position, the top is a different story.i would like to refit both plates as original, will this repair involve a grinder and mig. thanks 4 your help.

Try a big magnet. Like out of a blown hi fi speaker from the tip. (or two or three! considering the weight of the hinge plate) Manouver the hinge plate up the inside of the pillar using the magnet from the outside?!! ... and get the first bolt in. Now
