I want to put a 454 lpg into my hz s/wagon. Negating all the engineering stuff for now, what sort of power would those motors put out with a twin lpg set-up, 1o:1 comp, etc. There is a place in brookvale NSW called suburban imports that have reco, 100% BRAND NEW, Long, complete, short and bare blocks. what kind of combo are there for these motors? I want an absolute minimum of of 400hp at the rears and want the wagon in the mid - low 11's and the Strip. any suggestions would help? Has anyone seen theis conversion done cause i've seen it in mags but the don't say what they had to change to make it fit i.e engine mounts, steering rack etc?? any one know anything????? thanks

A big block is a straight bolt in job into a HQ-WB. HQ-HZ came standard with a TH400 (which is the box I assume you'll use) so crossmember, tailshaft, linkages, fluid lines etc are already made. A big block will bolt in wherever a small block fits bar hei

hey there Peter, I just put one in a hz pano in January for my work horse. I was told not to run it in on gas as it's too hot and will damage the rings, it's still on fuel now for other reasons. also get the try y extractors an absolute must.If you need m

byron, I thought about a 400 as my first option but I soon found that people where steering me away because of their siamese bores and the relative lack of them and parts for them. This was confirmed when I looked through things like the Parts Peddler and

when you where told not to run it on gas who told you that and was that a conversion or dedicated lpg build? I'm planning to rebuild the motor fresh and dedicate it to lpg so couldn't the heat problems be overcome? Plus I heard that lpg infact runs cooler

Mate, Im not saying dont got the 454 as if you got the $$ go for it, but you need some informing on the 400 SBC.

Daniel, Stu is giving you extremely good advise. Take note. One other option available to you is to bore a 307 to 4", fit 400 crank (or Eagle 383 crank) and at STD bore this gives you 377 cubes (at 0.030" oversize this is a 383 and these engines

Good points. I didnt even notice the HZ rego part of it. That will be a drama.


Fortunately I have HQ and have no such dramas, but hence my original choice of the Q!


If rego is important, than anything can be done, but its all $$$.

yeah I hear you stu on the HQ side of things but unfortunately the HZ is waht I got not by choice for a rebuild. I have booked in to see an engineer cause there is a shit-load of other mods I gonna do as well. So I see if he hit the BBC plan on the head b

Both BBC and SBC are a pretty common conversion on the old holdens, but true, the BBC conversion is rarer.

Forgot to add, not dynoed, but easily took car of an SS ute and also took car of a WRX motored subaru brumby (12s car) in some 'unofficial' street drags.


Theres about .5 sec over the quarter to get out of it with a change in converter too.

hey daniel i have had a HQ with a warm 202 for about 3 years now runing LPG and never had a problem. just when you put the motor together make sure you run hardened seats under the valves other then that never had a problem with rings. my dad is a A grade
