I’m going to install courtesy lights in the footwell of the wb ute
I’ve come across 2 unused wires behind the kickpanel
One orange and a piggybacked pink wire
Does anyone know if these are for the courtesy lights?
Can post a pic if needed

Does your ute have the door jam switches to turn on the interior light? I don't know WB, but earlier models used orange and white in and out of the switch.
So probably the orange one is your choice but you should see if it leads up to the back of the door jam switch to confirm

the ute uses door jamb switches. any idea where the rear harness plugs in? is it under the dash or behind the drivers kick panel. im thinking i may be able to pick up the courtesy wiring there

Those switches are just a 0V connection. It’s normally just a single wire and the plastic plunger moves forward under spring pressure where a metal ring contacts the metal body of the switch which is in contact with the body itself, thus creating a circuit. The light(s) themselves always have 12V to them, the switches just connect the 0V side to the body and then to the - terminal of the battery. |

I don’t think the courtesy light wiring is there in a WB Ute. I just wired the kick panel lights out of Statesman in mine as HK suggested. They must have used a complete different harness in the Statesman to Ute.

Yes, the WB Statesman harness is completely different to the WB Commercial one. The WB Commercial harness is closer to HX/HZ.
The orange & white wires go up inside the A-pillar to the dome light. Orange = 12V, white = 0V. The white wire is earthed out (sorry Byron) by the headlight switch, to switch it on.
AFAIK base models (non-Kingswood) didn't get the white wires to the door switches. They can easily be added though, just run a new white wire from the RH switch to the LH one & join it to the white wire at the headlight switch. Job done.

Hey Terry,
i was just going to pick up the orange and the white off the headlight switch. run them to the drivers side light with a double spade terminal then across to the pass side. this sound ok?

Am I better of picking the orange and white cable on the way to the dome light?
If so where wouldn’t the best place to do it?

As I said, the easy way to do the door switch wiring is to just run a single white wire to each switch & then connect them to the white wire at the headlight switch or some other convenient location.
