Pull the side cover off and read the numbers off the cluster gear. There are 3 x different aussie 4spd M20 ratios, and 2 x M21 ratios. The most common by far M20 is 3.05:1 1st and most common M21 is 2.54:1 1st, so you could also put it in first gear and count the input vs output shaft turns. However there are lots of boxes around nowadays mixed up, like with XU-1 M20 internals with V8 M21 input shaft and stuff like that, so best bet is to read the cluster.
