Hey there, thanks for checking out my thread. I was just wondering if anyone has any idea if a 3.3L Blue motor will fit in an EK ute with little to no work? If not, will a 3.3L low compression Red fit in? Just looking to switch out the old Grey for something with a little more horsepower. I'm on my P plates so I don't want too much power, I've read the 3.3L Red has 96kw, sounds fairly decent. Cheers!
No worries, mate.

Not yet mate, it's yet to be painted. I'll take some 'before' pictures and upload them when I get a chance!
No worries, mate.

A red/blue motor conversion is very easy. The only extra to put in a blue in is the cable accellerator and wiring the auto choke.

The red motor is rated differently to the blue motor, so you cannot compare ratings.

However this is all irrelevent as you cannot drive an EK with a red motor whilst on your Ps.

Not wanting to spoil the fun, but have you looked into the red/blue conversion from a registration legality point of view?
Although in Vic., only 2 years ago I fronted up to Vicroads to re-register an EH with a red 202 with VK injection on a black head & was knocked back.
I had previously had the car registered in my name with the original 179 when I first bought the car.
As the replacement motor, a red 202, was more than 10% greater in capacity than the original 179, I was required to furnish a VASS certificate, (engineers' report), before registration would be granted.
Luckily, I had most of the requirements such as inertia reel front belts, dual circuit braking system, heater/demister etc. fitted.
But, once I had completed the extra couple of items to comply, the assessment & paperwork for the VASS certificate set me back a touch shy of $900.
Moral of the story is to do plenty of homework, good homework.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying don't do it, but rather do your homework to make sure you can do it.

I know that I'm not allowed to do any performance enhancing modifications while on my P's, so I was thinking of putting the 3.3L in there and bending the truth a little, saying that I bought it like that ;-) what do you think? I'm fairly sure they would let it pass if I do that
No worries, mate.

You are right in some ways, they may not pick it up, however if you are in an accident you will be in the wrong (as you are driving against licence condition) and possibly no insurance.

I'm just going to keep the Grey until I get my full licence. I'll install extractors (if I can find any) and a 2" exhaust, that should give me a nice little power increase. Does anyone know the size of the stock exhaust on EK's? I don't have a tape measure around..
No worries, mate.
