I just checked several of my Chevy books & they all list that casting number as a 1968 '307' block.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

If the engine number starts with 307 then it is from a HK or 1969 HT except HT Brougham. If it doesn't start with 307 then it is from another GM vehicle. I've never seen a casting number stamped though. They are normally part of the casting.

Yep starts with 307. Was there any difference in the 307 in the Brougham compared to the Monaro?

I sure hope you're going to tell me it's worth more than scrap value.

Thanks for the quick replies too

G'day CrustyHK,

If you put the engine number up (use ## for the last 2 numbers of the 307 bit) the guy's will be able to give you a build date and Canadian plant name as well as the GMH plant it was fitted at and a guesstimate of the date range it would have been installed.

This will tell you if it was first installed into a pre Monaro/Brougham HK or HK after that and possibly if it was an early HT.

Sorry Byron, I've forgotten what you said re the Aussie assembled Chev's etc having 307's in them.

They are all the same. Only difference for all of HK and HT when 307 was available is HT Brougham never got a 307. People laooking for a specific engine number range will pay OK $ for them but they aren't worth all that much. If you PM me the engine number i'll tell you what it was from.
