Today at the SA Monaro State Titles we had a bit of a discussion on the dog leg on the rear view mirror on early Monaros. Not much seems to be known about it.

What is it for?
What models should have it?

Thanks

Under Group 10.185 of the yellow HK series parts catalogue, the interior mirrors are not specified to one model but all in the HK range. Just the two types, anti glare and normal.

I will dig up a picture. You have the normal mirror stem, and then a dog leg addition and then the mirror. I was told it was for the coupe and the lower back window height.

I thought Warren or Byron would have had an idea.

th longer (dogleg) mirror extension arm is on all HT & HG prem sedans, brougham & panelvans, to allow for small rear window

tiz also on monaro to allow for more angled window

was an improvement from HK although some late Ks may have got em

Is the dogleg part of the mirror head or is it a separate part?

It is separate.

Imagine a normal mirror and a normal mirror stem. But between the two, there is a boomerang shaped bit of metal, that drops the mirror lower. Supposedly to allow you to see out the back window in the coupes.
