anyone add their name to woodgrain group and details of what you can provide. I propose equal access to the intellectual property by all members. If you don't want your name on this list please remove it

Brian - HG sample
Davo - HT Sample + liaise with Ross
Sebring Orange - Technical support
xxxx- HK woodgrain sample
Simon - product support
Dobalina - part finance / administration by proxy

edit: access to Intellectual Property is defined here as access to stock at group cost. Please keep records of your expenses as these will define group cost.

Delete me if you dont mind , i just give out ideas and help for free when required . You have another hurdle you have not thought of though.
Gotta find out how it was adhered to the metal backing 40 years ago . My guess it was done by a HF Welder or heated so only the backing melted to the steel plates but no one seems to know ?
Its not a glue that i can make out , as i have done quite a but of testing with knowledgable people over the years and glue does not work and just bubbles up .
Super Thin film double sided (sticky) Aircraft film works great , bits still not how it was done .
Hence why i almost think making it as a Kitchen type Contact Adhesive film type thing maybe be more cost effective and easier 40 years later for the low volume rather than making it how it was way back . Although you always know if its done how it was 40 years ago you will get the same result.

Just my thoughts

Thanks John Boy, deleted as requested, we appreciate your input. Hopefully we can make you an honorary member of the hktg woodies down the track

I would agree that it doesn't appear to be glue as it isn't affected by the common range of solvents so we can look into that and/or decide that contact adhesive will meet our needs.

I have only looked at it in a cursory manner so far and have noted some basic effects which appear to support your observations

Hey Bob Dob, contact me re who does it etc. A leading trim restoration place in Adelaide has been doing the woodgrain for these models for years. In fact I'm 95% sure they are the ones who supply/or supplied rares originally. From as far back as the mid nineties, well before rares had it available as one of their product lines. In fact you can walk into this place today with you HK glovebox woodgrain and they'll do it for you to match the rest. Exact same stuff. Same process. They are the ones bringing it in and they know how to adhere it to the metal pieces. Weird how it's not available in the rares kit but this mob can do it for you if you bring your glovebox piece in. If you found or made a better matched reproduction woodgrain then maybe you could strike a deal with them so they use it on theirs in return for knowing how it is applied.

Rares probably are'nt totally to blame as they would of seen someone doing it tied up a deal in supplying them because the trimmer would of convinced them it was the best he could find and uses it on his big dollar Monaro interior restos. They dont have to do the research and voila! close enough is good enough

They are still made from the completely wrong wood grain unfortunately , but at least its matches all the other wrong ones you buy to make a set now . Dave is talking about making the whole lot with the correct woodgrain next year some time , so he not cut a deal with Rare Spares.

Ask bullittljv8. No names on here please as to who it is. In fact you can walk into this place today with you HK glovebox woodgrain and they'll do it for you to match the rest. Exact same stuff. Hmmm, just been advised that Rares have put in an order for the HK glovebox woodgrain from the above mentioned Adelaide supplier. A result of my older post above? Oh well at least if someone wants to go down that road they can get the full kit now.
