It was a delete option. Look for evidence of separator strip attachment lugs (or evidence of removal of them) on the rear quarter behind the glass. If it is a really early Dandenong HQ they will tell you on the BODY plate if it had a vinyl roof or not, but it'd have to be something like 5/71, 6/71, 7/71 or thereabouts to display this.

keep in mind the rear 1/4 sperator strips were used on two tone cars also, not just vinyl roofs.
another way to tell is if there is any glue residue around the rear screen, or top of front screen, under the chrome, as the glue was slapped on before the glass was installed, unless it was after market/dealer fitted.
most Ls's I have come across were vinyl deleted..

Correct, but 2-tone cars have different paint combination codes so you'll know instantly if it was a 2-tone.
I've only ever seen a handful of LS's with the vinyl roof factory deleted.

It should also be noted that two tone was not a regular option on Monaro, so if was two tone LS would be a special order, or dealer fitted (like my brother's car).

Some vinyl top cars like my prem have a grain pattern on the stainless separator strip.

Grained divider molds for vinyl roof are Hj on, HQ were plain.

HJ on were also painted the colour of the vinyl roof, but spare part were natural finish.
