Holden used a few Acronyms in the HK - HX period...

GTS
LS
LE
SS
any others?

did holden assign an "acronym" to a performance/luxury level regardless of whether it had 2 doors or 4...

I am not sure whether SS was an acronym or not but the fact that it was a belmont base with GTS gear fitted standard meant it needed an identifying moniker...

not to mention the base GTS 4 door was 253 with 4spd and 3:08 diff (standard form)SS was 253 4spd with 3:36 diff , so in theory the ss would have been a bit quicker down the line than a basic GTS/4.

LE and LS are unique to coupe, SS is unique to 4 door in Holden but was on the coupe in Torana, but did migrate to the ute in 1998.

Im not sure the SS is any different to Sandman, except the Sandman was available on Belmont and Kingswood in HQ-HJ and had a wider engine and transmission and colour/trim choice. LOL maybe I just convinced myself that Sandman is actually closer to a GTS 4 door!

So others could be (although not all are acronyms as such):

Sandman;
Deville (in HQ);
SL (HZ only though);
Vacationer (HZ only?);
SL/E (HZ only);
Maybe stretch to Ambulance as it was as different to a normal HJ-HX tonner as a Monaro LS was to a Monaro;

WB Deville/Caprice....XU1.....gtr.....XU2?.....WTF?....LOL...:-)...Just to name a few.

ps...back to the original question,they are climbing in price(all HQ in all forms it seems).there really isnt a silly asking price(within reason)its just what someone will pay....($25-$30k in good cond for a gts/4) ...good SSs (HQ)are getting close to the same.

Jim in Adelaide...Hindsight is bad vision!

Sorry Byron obviously misread your post.
Its funny print can do that.
I just laugh when these cars come up as Kingswwod and Belmont always get mentioned, usually derogatory
Sorry Doctor Terry as well.

Byron, dont forget the SS wagons, started with the VY "braggin wagon" and now the VE.

Also your list of accranyms, if these are for options, then SL/E was optional in VC/H and JB wagons.

Deville was the Brougham replacement.

Anyone else see this sell on ebay a few weeks ago? Pretty good dollars for a car that did not have the original motor in it.

Hi There,
Where does it say its a non original engine???
Bought a gts/4 all matching numbers 3 months ago in alot better condition in needs of basic resto on body, interior is good and motor freshened up for $16 000.
So yeah quite steep for condition of this 1 which i also was watching with interest.
Maybe they are jumping up.....?

Unless you had original documents it would be hard to prove the original motor is still there, if an exchange motor was fitted years ago and was cast around the same time as the build you would be hard pressed to say otherwise, it would not bother me if a cars engine was changed as long as it was at least period to the car ie: hq-hq series engine fitted.
If your after concours fair enough if not big deal.

I emailed the seller about whether the motor was original or not and he was honest enough to confirm that it was not. It may not matter to some buyers but it certainly devalues the car to some degree.

What engine/trans configuration is your car Johniz?

Mine I believe is not original engine as it is backed with T350 and was originally a 4sp man.

That said, it has a lot of work done to the car and engine (worked 308, 9" etc), is in damn near perfect nick and cost me in the mid 4 digit price range. I dont think the previous owner obviously knew what he had........

Mine is a 308 4 speed combo and all has been checked and varified that is correct by Holden Australia and Monaro club of S.A.
Has some paper work but not up to date or filled in properly.
Carby and block all date matched for 3/74 and tags match body and chassis

This is what i have been told so is what im passing on

I didnt forget them, but they have 4 doors so to me they are lumped in with sedans.
