I'm about to overhaul an M20 4 speed. Any tips and tricks to offer?

Local price for bearing overhaul kit around $100, cluster for M20 about $255. Any other spares outlets anyone knows of which can do better?

first gears always weld themselves to the main shaft through lack of oil.Where the oil holes are, grind a groove from one side of the gear to the other side passing the oil hole(inside and not too deep)This has worked for me.
