Hi again,
Got another question, and if someone can help me out it would be very much appreciated. I have a red holde 308 in a HZ running on straight gas - an impco converter together with an impco 450 mixer and quadrajet throttle body. On occasions, the car runs well and is very economical. However, I keep burning out points and even when I replace them it likes to cough and splatter under load. I have replaced - The distributer, the coil, condensor, points, leads, & plugs. I have even tried an electronic setup but I wasn't happy with it - (It kept on leaking oil into the dizzy up through the shaft.)
What are the spark plug gap settings for a straight gas setup? And should I be using different a type of plug? The current setting is 40 thou as per factory. This is really starting to get annoying so i would love some advice on what to do next.
Thanks in advance -
Geoff

Hi Gedro,

I can only offer the following for long term reliabilty:

1) Use low resistance spiral wire wound ignition leads. These are wire core but do not cause inteference (as the spiral winding contains the EMI). This will greatly increase yo

Hi guys.

As Paul E says, use a good quality set of spiral wound type leads, I've found Magnecor about the best.

Also I agree with him that a blue motor Bosch HEI dissy & coil would be the best set-up. The problem with the dissy that you tr

Thanks for you invaluable input Paul and Dr Terry. I do have the low voltage supplying the coil - 8.5V, and I am still running the standard leads. Sometimes I wonder if Gas is worth it's trouble! I think that the suggestion to go to the blue motor HEI is

No Worries. Remember to check earlier posts (last month or so) for comments on how to adapt the small V8 distributor caps to fit the large cap HEI dizzy (in case you have a fouling/clearance problem due to the giant HEI male-post style cap). From memory y

Just to expand further on Paul's last post. What you need is an XD/XE V8 rotor button and Red 253/308 dizzy cap. The WB/VC/VH/VK/VL dizzy's are getting scare but can be found for $250 - if you get one let me know the Bosch part number and I can tell you i

Hi Byron,

Yes, I've wondered about the Accel Supercoil also. I have actually tried one on my MSD setup (CDI) and it worked well, but would probably blow in the longrun as the primary coil windings would be thinner then a dedicated CDI coil. As for t
