hi guys,

has anyone succesfully fitted a late model crummydore/foulcan radiator to a hq/hz?

Ill need something decent to keep the new engine cool, lets say 700hp and i want to drive it in stop/start traffic.

since the late model boys dont seem to have the problems of us old car folk with half decent HP i figure a good start is to adapt the radiator.

Im quite happy to cut up the radiator support to make something suitable fit, i plan on cutting anyway because I need room for pipework in front of the engine and i have a 4" thick intercooler core i need to jam in there as well so im planning on putting the radiator/intercooler etc as far forward as the nosecone will allow to get my pipework in.

bonnet latch/support is in the bin, and im not scared of the grinder so what are your thoughts?

for reference, the measurements of the current core is 630mm*370mm*70mm brass/copper

The measurements I have found for WB are 625mm*442mm*50mm and i assume a crossflow design.

A vz v8 lists 675mm*442mm*50mm which i reckon i can fit with some butchery.

the lesser core thickness of the 2 above would make life easier for me and the vz core is appreciably larger than the early holden.

You can easily fit a WB radiator. Just get a rusty WB radiator support and un-pick the spot welds for the brackets, then open up your support and tack them in. Basically copy the WB support. Is pretty easy, but takes a while. You can get a 4 row crossflow for a WB.

yeah, wb is probably the go but i dont think it will give me enough clearance in the engine bay.

I just measured up a vs v6 radiator and it compares quite favorably to the existing core exposure size/space constraints and is a bunch thinner in the core.

I dont know which way to go to be honest, but there will not be enough room for the current setup once i fit the turbo hotside piping and i need to be generous with the space around those stinking hot pipes cos burnt stuff costs money lol.

I know of a vp that used to race with 550hp NA and all that had was a vs v6 radiator but it also had an electric water pump and didnt see bugger all street time.

edit: I also dont want to pay 600+ for a man to make something to suit if i can get away with something thats OEM
