How'dy! So the 202 in my HJ wagon wore out and the HJ scored the 186 out of my Torana. I did this quickly and did not worry about connecting the heater or any of the purge/carbon cannister connections. (Yep different model stromby and inlet manifold from 202 to 186, was too much hassle at the time.) However, having driven old reliable out of rego and leaving it standing for a year I cannot remember which way the water flows through the heater core (if it actually matters). The 202 manifold (and carby) will be going back on. Any brief advice would be great! Also - does anybody know if the original HJ cooling arrangement used 2 circuits? ie; seperate heater and manifold circuits comming off the thermostat housing and then both returning via a T-peice to the inlet on the water pump, or was it a single cicuit that ran straight through the manifold and back to the pump with the heater circuit just tapped in off the side of one of the manifold hoses? The first seems most appropriate to me - but perhaps something else was the go. I don't think mine was ever correctly connected anyway - and was the heater valve really left to hang off the hoses and its cable in mid air from factory? Or did it mount to something else? Any info would be a great help, I'll be listening! thanks!

Hi Dave.


The inlet manifold & heater core on an HJ 6 cyl are in the same circuit.


That is, hose from thermostat housing to manifold, then manifold to heater, then heater back to thermo housing.

Thank you Dr Terry, it has taken me some time to get back, thanks again for replying so promptly.


If the manifold and heater are in the same circuit then this will mean that the manifold is closed off to the circulating water when the heater is
