after a 250 k drive in very hot weather the vr refused to restart after a 5 minute stop/. tipped cold water over the crank sensor waited 20 minutes and it started again.
I assume the sensor is on the way out.
been offered one off a vs, will it suit the vr.

Yep, even though the VS Ecotec is substsantially different to the VR motor, the crank sensor is still the same on them.
