Hello Everyone,

I am in the USA and am working on a project.

Back in the 1950s - 1970's there was a company up here called DuCoil. They made a distributor that used two coils on a V-8 engine. The Hot Rodders used it.

I would like to build a newer version for my Street Rod and saw the L34 Holden 308 in about 1974 used a similar set-up made by Bosch.

My question first are there any of these distributors left?

Is there replacement parts such as a cap and rotor still available?

My internet searches have not been very successful, so I was hoping you guys would point me in the right direction. I have the equipment and resources to build the distributor but need the replacement parts.

Or if you talk me out of it, I will have to go another course.

Original L34 distributors are as rare as hen's teeth. They bring big $$$ on ebay. Holden only built 263 of these cars.

Things like replacement caps & rotors are in the same boat, however I do believe somebody is going to remake them. They used the same contact set & ignition coils as a standard V8, so they're no problem.

Surely there was more than one manufacturer of these things in the US. What about the likes of Mallory or similar.

I have a replacement cap but that was not easy to find, it was the last one they had and that was more than 10 years ago.

I never managed to find a replacement rotor button.

I think there is a guy in South Australia that is making these parts, try a search on the GMH-torana.com.au forum.

JBM & Dr Terry,

Yes I have found that these are a rare bird!

No one has built a version of these in the USA since the 1970s.

I have one lead of someone your direction building a modified cap and rotor, but have not heard back on pricing yet.

I may have to build a prototype off of a GM cap and rotor and then approach a couple of manufacturers for a current quote. A couple of years ago I was quoted $4000 per mold to have them made.

If I was remaking the cap I would reposition the offset socket to allow better fitment of the leads, the rubber boots dont push down very well in between the two existing sockets.

A couple of years ago my dad's friend was closing down his spare parts business he's had for 45 years. Anyway went through his stock and found a dizzy cap and 2 rotor buttons to suit the L34. At the time i didnt know what they were so i gave them to a friend. He said the same thing about how rare they are. But he didnt want this for a torana but his historic RS2000 racer . Apparently they use the same rotor button.
