I am wanting to update the motor in my HR Holden. At present is a great little 179hp/aussie 4 speed combo that it great unloaded but as I us the car as a Variety Bash car, it does get loaded up with a lot extra weight and I find it doesnt have the torque needed. Someone said to go for a 3.3 blue motor. Whats the difference between red, blue and black 202s. Is one a better option???

Any help appriciated.

the blue/black motors have 12 port heads and slightly stronger internals

a blue 3.3(202) is a good option, add a electronic dizzy (HEI) if you don't already have 1 and you'll notice a difference

Blue 3.3 should have elect dizzy as standard equipment, chuck on some extractors too.

Although not a complete VK motor, I have an injection setup on a black head fitted to a red 202 in an EH. Goes OK for what it is, economy is reasonable, depending how I drive it. Easy start, no choke & runs smoothly.

yep, they have a different cam than the carby engines, and maybe lower compression?

the fuel injection system was old technology at the time of the release, but it was still better than the carby engines

the black motor is better than the blue has better porting, i took 40thou off the head of mine on a HQ red block, it went really well. a lot more power. i think it might be too much for an aussie box.
the cam is similar to the xu1 but the black motor one has slightly different cam timing and the xu is probably a better grind.
