Having trouble with the Gen light in my sedan. Sometimes it is on while im driving then goes off when i turn the car off & other times its off when im driving but comes on when i turn the car off. Had a mate who is a mechanic check it out but we couldnt work it out. It only stared to do this after my wife flattened the battery. I have since put a new battery in it but it still comes on. Has a mind of its own. Mate said alternator if fine.

think you find you have a generator rather than an alternator.
the generator regulator on these had a habit of burning out the little resistor on the back of the regulator this causes the battery to get overcharged and burn it out.
the generator on the eh was upgraded to 35 amp from the previous 30 amp and the resistor was an el cheapo mod by gmh to allow for the extra charge rate.
a good idea is to fit an alternator and get a better and more reliable charge.
the generator regulator is available new
