East Coast Targa - Rally

East Coast Targa - All Tarmac Car Rally 2005
New South Wales’ only All Tarmac car rally is on again August 24th – 27th 2005.

Tarmac rallying is the fastest growing sector of motorsport in Australasia. In the last decade one event has grown into at least six individual events across New Zealand and Australia – all well patronized and supported by Governments and the commercial sector.

2005 sees the return to East Coast Targa of motor racing legends Bob Holden and John Goss, both former winners of The Great Race at Mt Panorama. Goss will have his recently restored Group A Jaguar at the Launch Party to commemorate TWR’s 1985 Bathurst victory.

I have fond memories of my TWR involvement in the Group A Jaguar and I’m pleased to be associated with East Coast Targa - it’s a good time to remember Jaguar’s motorsport heritage”.

Despite crashing out mid event Paul Stokell was doing an Italian Job on Targa

Tasmania recently, stealing a march on Ferrari on debut in Lamborghini’s 4WD Gallardo. A sister Lamborghini claimed 10th outright in the hands of golfer Stuart Appleby. This car will compete in East Coast Targa in a ‘world first’ pitted against a hopeful Phil Griffin in his Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale – a first for the two Italian supercar manufacturers in Tarmac competition anywhere in the world.

Reigning East Coast Targa champion Warwick Rooklyn in his Mitsubishi Evo 7, just back from competing in Tasmania counts the Lamborghini as a real head turner.  “it’s one of the most magnificent supercars I’ve ever seen… it sounds like a fighter jet on wheels… it’s just awesome”

And keeping with tradition Alf Bargwanna will represent the famous motorsport family name in his all Aussie Holden Torana XU-1. Bargwanna is a regular in East Coast and certainly knows how to entertain the crowd.

Bargwanna, Goss, Holden and Rooklyn will all be available to the media at the launch along with their exotic modern and historical classic race cars, beginning 2.30pm Saturday May 14th at Circular Quay.
