V8 Super School Revs Up With More PowerTUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 13: The Gold Coast-based V8 Super School operated by Marcos Ambrose and Paul Morris has launched two cars with more power and performance among its fleet of race-replica Holden Commodores and Ford Falcons that motorsport fans and the public can drive.
The upgraded cars are available in new Level 2 packages, and feature
450-horsepower V8 engines, an increase of 100-horsepower over the school's four
Level 1 Commodores and Falcons.
V8 Supercar drivers Ambrose and Morris opened the school 12 months ago and the Level 1 cars have been operating at the Holden Performance Driving Centre at Norwell since then with driving and passenger ride packages.
The cost for the new Level 2 driving package is $695 per person, and Level 1 is $449. Both packages offer 12 laps of driving, plus classroom and in-car tuition from qualified driving instructors. Race suit and helmet are provided. A minimum provisional drivers' licence is required.
The increased engine power in the Level 2 cars follows modifications to camshafts, cylinder heads, and the exhaust system.
Other upgrades for the Level 2 cars, compared to the Level 1 vehicles, include V8 Supercar brakes (AP on Commodore, Brembo on Falcon), coil-over adjustable shock-absorbers and springs, wider 10-inch rear slick tyres (8-inch on Level 1 cars), racing spool locked differential, and a Motec dash with print out.
Morris said the school had decided to introduce the Level 2 packages to create a higher performance option for customers.
"The (V8) Super School is going great guns with fans, the public, and tourists," said Morris.
"A lot of people come back again and they want to try something with a bit more (engine) grunt and better grip, so we've gone to the next step with these Level 2 cars."
Both Level 2 and Level 1 cars feature complete V8 Supercar aerodynamic packages, roll cage, race seats and harness, quick-shift gearboxes, and 18-inch wheels and Michelin slick tyres.
The vehicles are presented in a selection of V8 Supercar team livery designs, including Morris' Sirromet Wines colours, Castrol, and Team Kiwi Racing, plus a Marcos Ambrose 'Signature' Ford, and a Stegbar Falcon.
The V8 Super School cars are prepared and maintained by staff from Paul Morris Motorsports, located on-site at the HPDC.
Both Level 2 and Level 1 driving packages include tours of the PMM and Team Kiwi Racing V8 Supercar team workshop on-site and the Motorsport Gallery displaying a collection of historic and racing cars.
Packages for passenger rides in V8 Super School vehicles, which comprise four 'hot' laps of the 2.1km track with a qualified professional driving instructor, cost of $135 per person.
"These cars look great, and they sound fantastic," said Ambrose. "Anyone who drives them or rides as a passenger is going to have a lot of fun and excitement in a safe, affordable environment."
Those who have either driven or had passenger rides in the V8 Super School cars include former NSW State of Origin and Australian rugby league players Peter Sterling and Paul 'Chief' Harragon, world surfing champion Sunny Garcia, and Queensland Tourism Minister Margaret Keech.
