of the Right Stuff - Luff is BackWith his borrowed race car looking totalled and sitting despondent in Adelaide’s trackside first aid facility in a neck brace, the last thing on Ian Luff’s mind was the need to tee up accommodation for round two of the V8 Utes Racing Series.
Moreover the fact that the seemingly senseless race-stopping accident at the first corner of round one’s race two, was none of his fault. It hurt too - that it put paid to three other cars with the perpetrator getting through without damage - although five grand lighter in the pocket as a consequence.
But time, money and lots of man hours heals wounds - and cars.
Luff is now back in the rebuilt, FORMICA backed, Adam Brand owned Ford Falcon XR8 determined to finish what he promised before the season began - be a force to be reckoned with in V8 Ute Racing.
“It would have been so easy to simply walk away, give Adam his car back and say ‘Sorry mate’,” Luff said last week. “But with good people pushing you, like Formica wanting to get back in the driver’s seat, I couldn’t leave it there.”
“A lot of people wouldn’t touch the FORMICA Falcon after that massive shut, but Mick Zukanovic did. He took it to Melbourne where he, Marcus and their crew have done the miraculous - turned a smouldering wreck back into a gleaming race car,” he added, becoming more enthusiastic by the minute.
“Well ‘Luffy’ is made of strong stuff too - and he is back and rearing to go!”
