gday all i was at a customers house on friday. got talking about a couple old cars he had in his yard when we got a bit sidetracked & started talking monaro's as we do.when he hit me up with i had a monaro back in the day as we hear more so often these days.but this guy was in his late 70's & told me purchased a new monaro in the summer january 1969 going on telling me it was a hk gts. then he said wait a minute i still have something from the monaro from back then.so he took off to the shed.by this time i was thinking this guys got something special stored away.and there it is what he tells me at the time of sale was a promotional item given to him by the gmh dealer which was what he called a summer time sizzler special a red mallys esky specially made for holden with the hk gts black stripe in mint unused condition which he said also came with a picnic and rug set which he no longer had.anyway he gave it to me as a gift saying it should go with a monaro.my question is has anyone ever heard this before as i believe the old fella had no reason to make up such a story but i've never heard this before.
yeah nick sorry cant work how to up load photo's but there is one very similar on ebay at the moment under malleys esky going cheap. mine has a carry handle
I think you will find all the old Malleys Esky's had that stripe on them. I have an orange one sitting here in my pantry. They may have conveniently had a similar stripe to a Monaro which the dealer also noticed and so threw it in as a sweetener to seal the deal I reckon. I think the stripe was part of the Malleys logo. Or perhaps Holden stole the stripe from an Esky for their Monaros......
