another HK monaro question then
for a late sept build car the holden parts should be around early to mid sept date codes, from an email from Ben
what about the GM parts , eg manifold , carby , distributor , saginaw box , 10 bolt diff ect ,
as above i now know what date code range holden parts to look for when sourcing parts to complete the car and make the car period correct
but what about the engine and GM parts , i cant imagine them imported just 2 weeks before the car was built ,
how often did holden get shipments of chev parts , and am guessing like all importing there would have been different shipment dates
so the date code for a chev manifold could/would have been very different to say a saginaw box, or a ten bolt diff ect
i guess what i am asking is are there specific date code ranges know for these parts , or was it really a mixed bag of items they brought in , the correct casting numbers are more easy to find out , the applicable date codes not so easy to find in searches

The date codes for the imported parts will not be as consistent as the local parts. They are sourced from many different plants in the USA & Canada & then imported in batches. For example you might have one batch of 327 V8s imported in say October 68 (built in say Aug 68) & that might be enough to supply GTS327s thru to Jan 69.
A lot of early 307 V8s & Powerglides have 1967 dates.

| Early (type 1) HK GTS327 engines only had 6 x distinct engine assembly dates so that is easy. The parts used on each long engine will vary a bit as Dr Terry says. Engines came in crates, and were dressed at the assembly plants with dizzy, carbs etc so you can imagine these may be somewhat random in dates as well. As you can imagine no-one really cared about date coding, all parts were equal to those building them. 10-bolts were put together here afaik (the tubes and ends). |
