Thanks Brian, The front hubs are universal aftermarket hubs I bought from Race Brakes in Sydney. I then had them drill with 10 holes on a 4-3/4" PCD pattern. This gave me 5 holes for wheels studs and 5 for mounting the rotor. The rotors are DBA 4000 series originally for a C6 Z06 Corvette. They measure 355mm diameter by 32mm thick. The rotor is mounted to the hub with a machined aluminium spacer that was setup to give me clearance between the caliper and rim. The wheels are only 17" diameter and all the "experts" tell you you can't fit this size rotor and caliper in a 17" wheel. I proved you can. The caliper is from the same Corvette and is a monblock 6 piston PBR unit. They're different in that they run 6 individual pads per caliper. This means there are no leading and trailing piston size differences as tapered wear on the pads is not an issue. Now PBR can use the same caliper on both sides of the car. One casting to do all applications. CLEVER. Yes there is a spacer holding the caliper on. The CRS stubs are machined for a standard Commodore caliper whereas the Corvette units are like the HSV caliper with regards mounting bolt spacing. It's just a simple flat steel plate with some machine steel spacers to get the alignment correct.. Here's a pic of the bracket.

Posted - 03/10/2011 : 8:46:19 PM Front end pictures.. HR crossmember from CRS. CRS lowered stubs. Kings springs from HK-HG V8, Monroe shocks, Torana steering rack with custom mounts, powder coated black. Custom adjustable Whiteline front and rear sway bars. Superpro bushes throughout the whole car.
Assembled front end. All powder coated, painted, chromed and polished..  Adjustable front stabiliser bar ends. This, along with the rear bar, were custom made by Whiteline for me.

I am replacing the rubber/urethane front crossmember insulators with machined aluminium versions. This removes the play between the crossmember and the chassis. It does allow more vibration etc to be transferred to the chassis but luxury is not my aim, performance is.

Steering shaft uses Torana uni joints. Rack is a front mounted Torana.

Crossmember to subframe nounts machined from aluminium instead of rubber or urethane.
Lower ball joint covers neaten things up.

Billet aluminium Steering column cover. This will cover all the steering column visible in the engine bay. Looks much neater.

Posted - 26/09/2011 : 1:53:35 PM Nitrous kit install progress. All finished other than some fittings I need from the US. Whilst I'm waiting I'll rip everything apart and have the welding done on the manifold and then have it aluminium sprayed..
Nitrous blowback burst valve will be mounted at the front of the manifold on the plenum. Each throttle body is ported to the plenum by a 6mm hole. This should allow the plenum to pressurise and the valve to release this pressure in the case of a nitrous or any backfire.

Combined dual nitrous distribution block and throttle body linkage housing. The nitrous block supplied with the kit are works of art but didn't suit my setup. This one will keep all the pipes relatively short and equal length.

Nitrous nozzle pipes run. I still need the connectors to connect these pipes to the distribution block.
 All the nitrous plumbing sits in the valley. With the air filters in place most of the plumbing is hidden.

Nitrous setup finished. Now it will be pulled apart and the inlet manifold will be sent out for JET HOT coatings in a brushed aluminium finish.

Posted - 16/09/2011 : 9:04:56 PM Wilson Nitrous pro flow direct port dry nitrous kit. This should look sweet plumbed into the throttle bodies and if set up correctly hopefully add an easy 200 or more horsepower.
 Inlet manifold burst panel hopefully will save me money in the unfortunate case of a nitrous backfire. This should prevent damage to the throttle bodies, MAP sensor, pressure regulator
 Nitrous bottle mounting bracket. It's compact and easily adjustable for angle. It will be removed when the car is used on the road. The bracket is removable with just the small mounting plate staying in place. It will be covered by the spare wheel.

 Nitrous line was routed up under the passenger side inner guard out of harms way. Once it was mounted I removed it and wrapped it in a nylon sleeve that also houses the solenoid wiring and the wiring for the dakota digital sender units.

 This is how the nitrous solenoids will look when mounted. There are mounting tabs on each of the the air filter front mounting plates. These tabs will hold a mounting plate which holds the solenoids and plumbing.

Posted - 10/09/2011 : 07:40:07 AM There's the rear end. It's a Borg Warner 78 3.08 LSD. Narrowed Ford EF housing as this has better caliper mounts than the Holden unit. Also allowed much easier handbrake setup. Now the car is on the road the 3.08 gears don't give me the kick in the pants I want so they are coming out and some 3.89's are going in. Here it is in the initial mockup. All fitted well so it's out to be detailed




 Spacer machined to allow my HQ application wheels to fit on the Falcon axle. The axle flange on the diff is 70.2 mm but the wheel centre hole is 73.2mm. This fills the gap and neatens things.

 Hand brake backing plate and caliper mounting is nice and strong and a heap better than the Commodore version of the diff. This is why I started with the Ford unit.

Posted - 05/09/2011 : 6:11:29 PM Braking system is a VT Commodore fast fill master cylinder mounted on an XE Falcon booster, with 355mm Corvette C6 Z06 rotors and front calipers. Whilst the rear is 343mm Harrop rotors with Corvette C6 Z06 calipers

 BW78 with Corvette brakes adapted

Summit Racing billet brake vaccum pump is needed as the inlet manifold and cam combo don't give me a reliable, strong vacuum source

Master cylinder and booster.

The final specs are 4 bolt block bored to 30 thou and fitted with SRP 12cc dish forged pistons on balanced late Holden rods all connected to a 3.48" stroke Scat crank. Cam is a Camtech CT2248-49901B-110 hydraulic roller cam with speedpro lifters and original Holden lifter retainer. Heads are Yella Terra dash9 alloys machined to give a 55cc chamber and 10.5:1 compression ratio. Valve collets were changed to suit the roller cam and coil bind occurs at 700 thou lift. This cam only produces 587 thou so plenty of margin there. The cam was installed 2 degrees retarded using a JP timing set. A High Energy HQ style oil pan is used with an SRA oil pickup and standard volume JP oil pump. The inlet manifold initially will be the 8 throttle body unit but I may change this to the Torque Power high rise dual plane at a later time.

This is going to the engineers for the first inspection

Now it's off the the panel shop for the first time

Back from the panel shop after being painted underneath and the ehngine bay. Now it's time for assembling the drivetrain

Home fron the panel shop after final paint. The front end is too low and was raised with standard height HG V8 springs

Now all finished it's back to the wieghbridge and final engineers inspection.
 All finished and ready for rego
 Registered finally. I had the plates on holde at the RTA for 8 years

I have tried to post a pic by clicking the "Insert Image" icon above then pasting into that the URL of the picture from my OLD HOLDEN page. I've tried it with the .html removed from the end and also with it still there. Neither works. HELP |
