Valvesheild – a solution for older engines on ULP

For all pre 1985 Australian registered vehicles, unleaded petrol exposes engines to accelerated valve seat recession wear (VSR)

Uneaded petrol (ULP) creates problems with vehicles which, at the time of their design and construction, relied on some inherent properties contained in the leaded fuels.

In pre 1985 cars, leaded petrol helped to manageVSR, but now lead has been removed from petrol those cars are left exposed to VSR wear. Cast iron heads fitted to some Post 1985 engines are also vulnerable.

But a new product released by Penrite is claimed to offer an easy fix.

A simple solution that lets you manage the loss of valve seat wear protection previously provided by leaded fuel, Valveshield is even simpler to use - just add 40ml from the dispensing container to each 40 litres of unleaded petrol as you fuel your car.

Sodium, Potassium or Phosphorous, Manganese based technology is used as the lead replacement additive in petrol (LRP). Compatibility of lead replacement additives used in fuels is a contentious issue.

Authorities overseas have cautioned that brands of lead replacement petrol should not be mixed because of incompatibility of additive systems.
