16th October, 2000 Stars of Paris headed for SydneySeveral new cars which starred at the recent Paris Motor Show are on their way to Australia for the Sydney Motor Show (November 17-26). The Citroen C5, Honda Civic, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Volvo S60 are among the innovative cars which made their production debuts in Paris and are now headed for Sydney.
However, it breaks with traditional saloon car styling by featuring a high roofline and flat floor, to create more interior space than any other car in its segment. Also featuring the latest evolution of Citroens Hydractive suspension, with a computer lowering the ride height and adjusting suspension stiffness according to conditions, the C5 will go on sale in Australia in the second quarter of 2001.
Going on sale just before the Motor Show is Hondas all-new Civic which, like the
Citroen, features a high For the first time in Australia the Civic will be offered as a five door hatch-back, as well as a sedan. Mercedes-Benzs all-new C-class is claimed to feature an unprecedented level of technical innovation for its class. The new car, which includes more than 20 technical innovations from the Mercedes flagship S-class models including windowbags, adaptive airbags for driver and front passenger, headlamp assist, multifunction steering wheel and fibre optics, is due to go on sale immediately after the show. Volvos S60 is described by the company as a sports-oriented luxury sedan. Sharing its engines and suspension with the bigger V70 and S80 models, but with quicker steering and tauter handling, the S60 will go on sale in Australia next January. The 2000 Sydney Motor Show is expected to feature up to 28 new and upgraded models from more than 40 marques, as well as previews of upcoming models, and several design concepts. |
